Titanium

About the material

Titanium is a material with exceptional properties. Lightweight, corrosion-resistant, biocompatible and high-strength, it also offers excellent resistance to seawater, acids and bodily fluids. Due to these properties, titanium is widely used in medical technology, watchmaking, aerospace and precision engineering.

Jacques Allemann offers titanium in various purity grades and alloy variants – tailored to mechanical requirements, formability or standard specifications.

Pure titanium – Grade 1 (3.7024)
Commercially pure titanium with maximum purity
  • Density: approx. 4.51g/cm³
  • Excellent corrosion resistance, even in highly oxidising and chloride-containing environments
  • Very good biocompatibility
  • Good cold formability, but only moderate strength
  • Standards: ASTM F67, material no. 3.7024
Areas of application:
  • Medical implant parts
  • Watch case
  • Sensor covers
  • Components for the chemical industry
Titanium alloy – Grade 5 / Ti6Al4V (3.7165)
  • The most commonly used titanium alloy worldwide
  • 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium – results in excellent strength and low weight
  • Rust-proof, corrosion-resistant, but harder and more difficult to machine than pure titanium
  • Good weldability and suitable for thermal treatment
  • Standards: ASTM B348, material no. 3.7165

Typical applications:
  • Precision parts in the aerospace industry
  • Implant parts (e.g. screws, plates)
  • Watch components with high scratch resistance
Ti6Al4V ELI (Extra Low Interstitials) – Grade 23 (also known as ASTM F136)
  • Modification of Grade 5 with reduced oxygen, nitrogen and iron content
  • Improved toughness and biocompatibility
  • Preferred in medical technology for implant components that come under stress
  • Standards: ASTM F136 / ISO 5832—3 / material 3.7165 (with ELI marking)

Areas of application:
  • Bone and dental implants
  • Miniature screws, plates
  • Components subject to high stress with tight tolerances
