The material 1.4539, designated X1NiCrMoCu25-20-5 and commercially known as AISI 904L, is an austenitic stainless steel. Its high nickel and molybdenum content, combined with copper addition, ensures excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride-containing environments. 1.4539 also demonstrates outstanding resistance to sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid and other aggressive chemicals. Typical applications include chemical and petrochemical processing, plant construction, offshore engineering and the pulp and paper industry. Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, it is also used in seawater systems and marine applications.
