The material 1.4404+S+Cu, designated X2CrNiMo17-12-2 and commercially known as AISI 316L or Z2CND17-12, is an austenitic stainless steel. With the addition of sulphur and copper, it combines the excellent corrosion resistance and weldability of 1.4404 with improved machinability and increased strength. Sulphur enhances chip-breaking behaviour, making the material highly suitable for turned parts, while copper further improves resistance in reducing environments. Typical applications include chemical processing, equipment manufacturing, medical technology and areas where both high corrosion resistance and efficient machining are required.
