The material 1.4401, designated X5CrNiMo17-12-2, is an austenitic stainless steel. Due to its molybdenum content, it offers significantly better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared to 1.4301, especially in chloride-containing environments. 1.4401 combines excellent corrosion resistance with high toughness, even at low temperatures, as well as good formability and weldability. Typical applications include chemical processing, food and pharmaceutical industries, tank and equipment construction, and marine environments where reliable corrosion protection is required.
