Material 1.4016, also referred to as X6Cr17, AISI 430 or Z8C17, is a ferritic stainless steel containing approximately 17 percent chromium. It offers very good corrosion resistance in atmospheric conditions, excellent polishability and good formability. As it is not hardenable, 1.4016 provides moderate strength but high toughness and good resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Typical applications include decorative elements, kitchen and household appliances, watch components, automotive parts as well as architectural and interior design uses. Thanks to its balance of corrosion resistance, workability and attractive appearance, this grade is one of the most widely used ferritic stainless steels.
