The material 1.4005, designated X12CrS13 and commercially known as AISI 416 MOD, is a martensitic stainless steel. Thanks to the addition of sulphur, it offers excellent machinability, making it distinct from grades such as 1.4006. 1.4005 provides good corrosion resistance in mildly aggressive environments and can be heat treated to achieve different levels of strength and hardness. Typical applications include mechanical engineering, screws, shafts, bolts, valve parts and other precision components where moderate corrosion resistance and cost-effective machining are essential.
